Kim’s Warm Winter Wish story begins two very difficult years ago. Mike, Kim’s husband of five years, was diagnosed in early 2017 with terminal brain and lung cancer. For the next year their lives were filled with many trips between their Wilber home and Lincoln for Mike’s treatments. As Mike’s health deteriorated and the need for additional care became more evident, Kim decided to leave her job to provide the needed care. Unfortunately in March of 2018 Mike lost his battle with cancer and his passing left a large void in the family. Mike had been a great stepfather for both of Kim’s sons, ages 14 and 17. Mike was also more than Kim’s partner in life; he was her “go-to” as he was handy with everything.
While the furnace heated Kim’s home through the spring in 2018 and the fan functioned to provide cooling in the summer, it failed when called upon to heat her home in the fall. Kim called to Service Guard with hopes they could restore her heating, however it was determined the parts required to fix the unit had become obsolete due to the age of the furnace.
Having the burden of medical bills still awaiting payment, being out of work and battling depression, Kim didn’t have the means to replace the furnace. She kept the home as warm as possible utilizing space heaters and a small electric fireplace. She and her boys kept warm during the nights using electric heated blankets on each bed. While these efforts allowed the home to be somewhat livable and just warm enough to ensure additional problems didn’t arise from frozen plumbing pipes, they also caused the electric bill to skyrocket which was an additional burden Kim and her family didn’t need. Bryant received nominations from two of Kim’s close friends who knew what she was going through and thought Bryant’s Warm Winter Wish could be a start to putting the pieces back together.
Bryant Air Conditioning, Heating, Electrical & Plumbing will be installing a new Bryant Heating & Cooling systems high efficiency furnace. With the tight quarters in Kim’s mechanical room changing the furnace filter on her old furnace was tricky, so Bryant will be making changes to the central return air system to allow for a much easier filter replacement process.
Listen in as Steve and Kevin along with Nelson from the Froggy 98.1 morning crew call Kim to deliver the good news that she was selected as a Warm Winter Wish recipient.
