Let's Test The AC
It's only March, but we have ourselves an unseasonably warm days ahead. Who would have thought you could be thinking about opening the windows to enjoy the warm fresh air in March?!!
We're not going to complain. But we will remind you to do one thing before you open those windows, and that's testing out your air conditioner. Yep, you read it right, we want you to turn on your AC. If our weather gets into the 60s or even 70s as the forecast is predicting you can test out your air conditioning unit. Here are a few things to do when testing your AC.
- Wait for the afternoon or warmer part of the day.
- Make sure the outdoor temps are above 55.
- Turn your thermostat to cool and set the point several degrees lower than the current indoor temp.
- Let the system run through a cycle and check the air coming out of the registers.
Wait for the Warmer Part of the Day
There really isn't a specific time of day to test out your air conditioner . The main reason for this suggestion is to ensure that the outdoor temps are at least at 55 degrees, 60s or low 70s are even better. The main reason is to avoid any damage that could be done by running an air conditioner at too cold of temperatures. If we are seeing temps in the 60s and 70s in March and in Lincoln NE you can count on a good amount of sun heating up the home.
Turn Your Thermostat to Cool and Reduce the Set Point
Once it is warm enough outside change your thermostat setting to cool. Then make sure the set point showing on your thermostat is below the actual temp, forcing a call for cooling. It should not take long for your thermostat to make that call and for your system to respond. If you don't notice your cooling kicking on, check the air conditioning condenser outside. Check if the air conditioner seems to be trying to turn on. Is there a humming noise coming from the unit? If there is, turn your thermostat off of cool and call Bryant. If you don't hear any noise the air conditioner's disconnect might be switched off. If this isn't the case, turn the thermostat off or cool it and give Bryant a call to have your system inspected.
Let the System Run Through a Cycle
Once you have the air conditioner kicked on let it run through a cycle or two and check the air coming from the vents. The air should feel a good amount colder than the air in your home. If you don't feel like the air is coming out any cooler than the air in your home, there may be an issue with the air conditioner.
